“The wellbeing of the students is the hottest topic in secondary education today.”
Over the last few months I have been in conversation with several high school administrators in close to 10 different school districts in the Milwaukee area. I also had an extended conversation with the program coordinator for our local outpatient mental health hospital where they have a 10 week waiting period for teens needing help.
The message is the same with all of these folks. They are concerned about the wellbeing of their teens. One principal went as far as to say that “The wellbeing of the students is the hottest topic in secondary education today.”
We at The Teen Compass are excited to say that we believe that we have something meaningful, The Teen Compass Wellness Notebook, for these folks to use, something for them to use to help promote wellness, to open up meaningful conversations with their students and to let young people know that if they need help they can reach out to adults.
Another local high school has just decided last week to use the program next year in their Freshman Health classes. That makes it over 20 high schools in the MKE area that are using The Teen Compass and that means another 300 students will be learning about wellness in eight areas of their lives, making goals for themselves and reflecting on the decisions they make every day. This is important work as the administrators will tell you!
